History

In the summer of 2009, a dozen of Clarkson University’s Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization(CEO) members took a broad leap in the advancement of their new ‘diversity of discipline’ mission. The organization’s new president, John Exley, worked with the club’s new Administrative Advisor, Jessica Kelly, and an outside venture capitalist and serial entrepreneur named Jerry Hacker to organize a one-day conference. At the conference, CEO members evaluated several business opportunities in a professional setting with Mr. Hacker, multiple Clarkson faculty members from the School of Engineering, a local reporter, and several potential investors and business leaders.

From this conference, John Exley and a new CEO member and mechanical engineering student, Tim Zoll, founded a brand new organization at Clarkson called Sustainable Synergy. Shortly after, Tim was elected unanimously as President by the officers who John and he had brought on board. In a flurry of conference calls, recruiting, planning, networking, and researching, President Zoll successfully guided the organization through a summer of virtual meetings. He has now led the organization into the fall semester and gained attention from many students passionate about gaining not only leadership but joining a good cause and making a difference.

Faculty members, Ken Visser and Doug Bohl, the president of Clarkson University, Tony Collins, and venture capitalist Jerry Hacker have eagerly become incredible supporters of Sustainable Synergy and what they stand for. Sustainable Synergy is currently pursuing energy conservation projects on the Clarkson campus with the ultimate goal of learning the in’s and out’s of the entire university to supplement the current energy supply with alternative forms such as wind and solar energy.
